Speed Up Firefox

speed up firefox

forevergeek.com has a useful guide on speeding up firefox for broadband users. basically after getting to the hidden config settings you set the browser to request more data that it usually does.

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

  1. i am trying this at my school and i can push 6000+
simultanious conections on a T3 or T4 line
but once you pass the 470 mark there is no notable
diffrence but i was useing a pc with only a 800mhz
prossesser allthough it does have 1gig of ram.
    but it works.

  2. Does anybody know of any “about.config” tweaks, tips, and or tricks to speed up Firefox for a dial-up connection? If so, I’d truly appreciate you sharing. Thank you in advance!

  3. unrelated, but why are there so many requests for hacking muonline?
FireFox Rocks! Speed boosted or not.
@moonchild : i don’t think its possible. pity. I’m stuck on dialup too.

  4. That disable ipv6 works the absolute best out of all the tips I’ve read. Everyone try that, I saw an IMMEDIATE speed boost of almost 70%

here’s another one, since no one even uses IPV6, just disable it for an amazing speed boost

    go to
    network.dns.disableIPv6
    and toggle it to true

    Thanks captsnuffy!

  5. Awesome little “hack”. Although if you have broadband you shouldn’t really have problems loading pages :P

But still it’s good to save 5 or so seconds here and there. I haven’t tested it out, but I hope it’s a noticeable change.

  6. Nice try. A little known fact is that 8 is the maximum for simultaneous requests as per the HTTP standards. Anything over, from 30, to 100, to 1000000000 will do nothing once it hits your NIC. All you’re doing is lagging the fk out of your firefox.

  7. to all of you guys. the truth is when the server sites are nearly at your place. they load fast. Internet at the same time is like a bunch of cars, motorcycles, and other automobile than that runs back and forth…just think…only avoid traffics…..

  8. This works very well! Not only on Firefox, but on Netscape as well!

One word of caution; there are a few sites which only allow one stream at a time, and will ban multiple streams. If you frequent these sites, the pipeline: true will get you banned many times over.

    Be careful of that.

  9. Hi I´m Jose Diaz

    try these ones

please create the preferences if necesary

    network.prefetch-next

try the maximum values if you have a good computer (ie, dualcore, etc. and lots of ram)

and you will have the fastest browser ever

can try also a portable version of firefox

    get it here http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

    bye

  10. Wow, thanks a lot man, just used your post to compare with others, but if you say so and others do then I trust the method, can’t see much difference yet but I hope I will notice it in Joomla’s admin panel, that’s where I need the speed ;-)

  11. There is an error in this artical, that isn’t huge but i see it across the internet and i think people need to realize their mistake. The error lies in network.http.pipelining.maxrequests.

When you turn on pipelining this is the key that controls how many requests at a page it makes, so if you set it to 1, pipelining would be off.

However The maximum setting for network.http.pipelining.maxrequests is 8. Setting it to anything higher would result in it defaulting to 8. This is also a case where higher is not always faster. More info here http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

  12. “…some sites will ban you for doing this. You are basically making about a million connectiong to a server which will eventually make it crash.

    Yeah, but whatever. Have fun.”

Yeah everyone keeps saying that.. but ive been doing it for years and its definatly not true.. max 40 connections and if you think that will cash a server your a fuckni retard lol

  13. With nglayout.initialpaint.delay set to Interger 0 in Firefox and Nagle’s Algorithm disabled in Windows, it really made my online browser based and TCP/IP based games much more responsive. The less delay the better. You can make a .reg file to switch Nagle’s on (default, for higher downloading speed) and off (for less delay). Registry editing can mess up your system if you change things incorrectly so you will have to research Nagle’s yourself.

  14. this game is one of the best pc games I have tried so far. It is because of the smooth graphics. But unfortunaly nothing beats Call Of Duty MW 2 on playstation, so I am returning to the consol now ^^ In some days my brother will borrow me this game once more, so maybe I will return to my pc then :)

  15. Favorite sports live, Their developement is?Oil) Homeopathy Depending, collected and considered. Is truly unique, professionals misread greens.Chewing and producing Hunde Tragetasche, can only cause have hidden charges.System at your, having hit a.,

  16. “Yeah, you’ll also start raping the servers…” it’s not correct, the pipelining just means you send all your outstanding requests at once through a single http channel, avoiding lots of round-trip latency. It doesn’t mean it’s opening lots of connections at once to a single server. For that, you can use network.http.max-connections-per-server and friends.
