Personally, I'm interested in the camera hack because I could then buy 10 of them for $250, and video the same event (for example, a band's show at a rock club) from 10 different angles at the same time instead of having to do multiple takes/setups... True, the quality might not be broadcast, but if it's for a web video or something to be included as rich content on a cd, I'm sure the quality would be fine.

I haven't seen any other cameras which would allow me to do that at such a low price... the lowest price camcorder I see on overstock is $130.

Anyway, the site is awesome, so I personally don't care if this particular article is done yet... just pointing out WHY people are clamoring for it.

If some of you are so concerned over getting a camera you can download video from for less than $20, then just buy one of the nifty little bastards from Overstock. Honestly.

No one likes a whiner.

Check out the two sites mentioned by ladyada up in #37 for progress and details of the project so far. Basically, Vince's summary is where the project is at though. You can get it connected via usb, but there is no way to get data off the device yet. No one has even been able to get any sort of video/audio outs going either. Last I read, people were starting to look into tapping into the video signal going to the LCD.

considering what has yet to be done with the cvs cam, instead of letting the big release get pushed back, why not publish what *has* been done? letting people know how the hardware is setup, maybe provide some sample i/o from the usb connection, etc., could help to get people on board and helping out with the project as it progresses.

rather than just letting everyone whine about when it will be finished.

Wow. You guys are amazing! Seriously, that's awesome just getting that far.

We don't have those stores in Alaska, so I've never seen either of these products. :(

working on the otu digital camera took a lot more than just figuring out the usb pinouts on the circut board
it took finding products with similar chipsets
finding drivers and modifying them
also it took removing the flash memory from the circut board just to get a peek into the firmware and unlock it
claming a 90%hack when all you have is a
three finger salute and no usb protocall
is jumping the gun a bit
when you are able to download the firmware
and start analyzing it with a dissambler
you might have a 50%hack
unlocking and downloading the video in whatever format it may be in and reseting the camera
might be a 70% hack
we are at the stage with the still camera
of downloading decoding resetting the picture counter changing the amount of pictures taken
permenatly unlocking the camera
and still working on several other hacks
like live preview, sd card mods, flash control mods. infered mods black/white mods (for higher resloution) and still dont think that we are at the 90% mark we still are trying to decode the firmware with instruction sets we are about 30%
