Weather Satellite Station

sat image

This page describes one group’s experience setting up a receiving station for NOAA weather satellites. To receive the images you first need to track the satellite you want to receive from. After tuning your receiver to the satellite’s frequency you can record the audible data stream using your sound card. You can decode this data either real-time or later. They went through several system iterations using both free and commercial tools.

Quafboy, I mean er “newtechinc”, Are you planning on spamming my site all weekend?”

I didn’t realize you had a problem with computer/hack enthusiasts? perhaps you don’t like the fact I’m trying to create a blog where hacks actually get posted/and or arn’t “saved” for a rainy day. Don’t be hatin’!

You can “spam” my comments all you want. But spam isn’t the appropriate word in my definition for advertising a similar site on hackaday.com. I would love you to post comments on mine. I don’t consider myself competition or take myself as serious as you do I guess. I wonder what others think here. *wink wink

  2. well, newtechinc’s comments dont pertain to this story, so they are technically spam, but im glad he posted. it seems like a good site. Hackaday seems to be posting alot of stupid stuff – a tripod made out of crutches -WTF? I figured that hackaday was just running out of hacks, they had shown most of the good ones. we will see if this guy can keep the good stuff coming.

  3. Ok, glad I’m not the only one here who’s kind of annoyed by newtechinc’s shameless self-promotion. Not that competition isn’t good, but the advertisement’s on the verge of getting out of hand when you’re making comments just to throw in a link to your own site.
