interesting, and i’ve contemplated such a thing in the past (have one of those mini CRTs off of a video camera), but was lacking any sort of hard details.

Like the instructable is.

points for doing it, but the writeup is a fail.

wow, pretty good for a 13 year old. the schematic is pretty hilarious, almost done in crayon. still, this kid is a lot smarter than i was at 13, either that or his dad is a cheater.

I wonder how much he gets pummeled on the playground? this is a great project. i just wish i had access to these types of things when i was 13.

i’d hardly call the writeup a fail. sure, it needs a little polishing, but he’s not doing a writeup of the theory of the electronic circuitry. he’s showing how to turn an old viewfinder into an oscilloscope.

Age has nothing to do with anything. Im 13, and Ive built 3 robots and constantly inventing and building many things.

You can also use and old camcorders as a infrared night vision headset. Thats what im working on now.

Nice how a 13year old kid posts a hack and folks tear it apart because it isn’t all perfect.

Hey dummies! This is how you learn shit sometimes!

This kid probably has a better hands-on understanding of the subject matter than the commenters because he got off his ass and hacked it for himself as opposed to monday morning quarterbacking it after someone else did!

As more experienced hackers we are supposed to _encourage_ those that are learning, and even try to take away something from the project.

The project is cool and it has merit.
Refinements are _always_ going to lurk around every corner of every hack!

I say well done sir and keep up the good work!

(As for the rest of you pissy lot…you can bite me)

Maybe I missed something but it just looks like he took the camcorder apart and rearranged the insides into a box. I mean, camcorders normally have the AV inputs anyway and all it seems his does is display the AV input through the viewfinder which it would have done anyway?

@jack – I think it’s more of the part where he made it a selectable option to repurpose the tube/circuitry as a simple oscilloscope… fun hack!

Ive made to of these viewfinders into disply monitors now, His artical helped me when I got stuck on how to link the video signal. I only had the GND wrong, did the rest my self. More people need to put on the internet, how to do this sort of stuff, espeshaly with LCD ones.

Unbelievable…..a KID of 13yrs has SO much electronic savvy, so much vocabulary, so many tricks????
Anyone with the understanding & knowledege of electronics should recognize: it is beyond the likes of a 13yr old …..there are too many “ADULT” “EXPERIENCE” in this article.
…have seen many child prodigies and have mentored some myself, but this guy beats them all !!
Either he’s a miracle or a well planned premeditated hoax. Wish it isn’t the later though……

I wish him good luck and Gods very best!!!!
PS: wish there are ( I’m sure there are ) more kids like him around, too!
