the kid did do a good hack, sounds about 12-13, that’s pretty good for his age. i’m a little concerned about his flamethrower idea, hope he doesn’t kill himself. kudos on the neat hacks

TBH it looks like hes just riped open the headphones with controler that comes with the ipod, wired up some new switches to it and put some connectors on the head phone wires.

Neat idea, but good god this video is painful to watch.

A note to anyone making a video… If your idea can be conveyed with 3 pics and a paragraph of text, a 4 minute video is NOT a good idea.

Just get to the damn point and quit mumbling and fumbling around.

The video seriously was painful to watch. They’re not just out to get you.

While I like the idea of a dock, the shuffle is meant to be the most portable ipod available and making docks for it seems rather counterproductive.

Looks good to me. I think I’ll just remove the earbuds and put the RCA style plugs on the ends of the cord. Just because my Sansui Amp. only has RCA jacks for inputs though.

Yeah I loved it. I am glad kids still say “sucks balls” I figure if I still use it, it must be old and outdated language.

Certainly a simple hack, but it solves a problem very nicely. Its amazing there are no docks for it yet.

And, yeah, trying to solder to really tiny tabs takes patience and some amount of skill. good work.

I *totally* agree with sir_flexalot. I started hacking at a pretty young age myself. now granted I wasn’t transmitting digital data over rf at that age, but to this day I use one of my first hacks (or at least the concept). I tore into an alarm clock, found the pin that went high upon alarm and hooked it to a relay to turn on the stereo instead of the loud wahh! wahh! wahh! that it came with. Simple, but effective – and I learned a lot from it!

Im impressed. The kid clearly isnt studying to be a film director, or an actor. Cut him some slack on the video, sheesh trolls.

The hacks on his page are nice. Antique AM radio repair with home-made caps? No way was I pulling that off at 15. He’s got a knack for hardware and electronics.

My advice: Stick with it, dont get wrapped up in partying and/or girls in a few years. It’ll pay off when you’re 25-30, which is not as far away as you think it might feel like.

Listen to criticism, use it positively.
Dont take the trolls personally.

Most importantly, be really careful. Safety first. Especially with things like your flamethrower. You always need a safety backup plan for the worst case scenario. Your flamethrower switch shorts out and you cant stop shooting a 7 foot stream of flame? You better have a good idea of what to do other than “drop it and run”.

Dont stop learning, dont stop trying, and dont stop hacking.

If your going to keep making videos.. Get some video editing software, so you can shoot retakes, splice them in, and edit out screw-ups.

Yes, deffinatly get some software. if, god forbid, your a windows user then movie maker comes with xp and vista, which is good enough for basic stuff. Keep going with the hacking and dont let anyone put you off just cos your 15. i started at 12, got lots of critisism form lots of people but kept at it, now if anyone i know wants any tec doing, they come to me. quick and easy way to make some extra pocket money too :)
