Sukhoi Su-27 Jet Build Throws Down

This no model, but a fully functioning RC jet. The Sukhoi Su-27 was the Soviet Union’s counterpart of the F15 and this 1/6.5 scaled version measures eleven feet long and is fully controllable. As if the 80-page build log wasn’t enough, the flight video after the break is nothing short of jaw-dropping. The test flights end in smooth landings but with all the time that went into the project that’s got to be nerve-wracking.

  1. You don’t ACTUALLY NEED INSURANCE
If you’re willing to take the financial risk.
You can pretty much fly any damn aircraft
you want so long it has an air worthiness and inspection certificate and YOU the pilot have
an FAA multi-engine pilots licence with IFR
(Instrument Flight Rules) and a valid and
    current medical certificate.

There is NO LEGAL REQUIREMENT in the U.S.
to have hull insurance or other insurance
for aircraft if it is NOT being used for commercial passenger or cargo use.
So long the craft is for personal use ONLY
and not for transporting paying passengers
or cargo then you could fly almost any craft
you so desire that isn’t considered a
    mechanical or environmental hazard.

You may be restricted to specific air spaces
because of NOT interfering with accepted
    commercial flight routes or specific
    city-boundary airspace limits but otherwise
the sky is the limit on where you go in
    whatever craft.
