A Design Contest With High Odds Of Winning!

[John] wrote in to tell us about this contest hosted by Avnet. All one has to do is upload a video of their design to Avnet’s Youtube page.  There are four categories to choose from including: Solar, Communications, Transportation, and Entertainment. Four contestants can win an iPad2.

The only catch, if you can call it that, is that one would have to use at least one component from their “more than five million SKUs available.”  The thing that makes this contest more interesting than it usually would be is that there appears to be no contest entries as of August 24th. Official rules can be found on their site here.

The contest runs through the end of August, so there isn’t a lot of time to get a design together. However, it’s possible that you have something already built that fits into their product catalog. Make a 30-90 second video of it in action and you’ve got a (very good apparently) chance of winning an iPad2! Check out the contest video after the break.[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUd7UZiK6dg&w=470&h=345%5D

  1. the real question is who owns the license to your creation? any opt-ins?

The ipad2 is a 500 dollar end-user product.. It’ll likely take an embedded bus or physics simulation design to win this..

  2. I dislike “video” contests. I’m an engineer, not an actor, director, or video editor. Looking at the kind of video I’d be likely to make would be painful. Watching the GOOD engineering video blogs is still annoying…

  3. PS: most “design contests” end up having a rather small number of final entries, making your odds of winning (if you enter) pretty good compared to contests of chance only. On the other hand, they can be a lot of work.

  4. You all are way over thinking this, I’ve looked thru the cat and found all kinds of stuff used in a lot of HAD projects. Like the LED’s in the 8x8x8 cube, he’s already got a video of it. Some of the stuff that used arduino, almost every project could use something that they sell, so post you’re already made video and win a free ipod2. Just food for thought.

  5. Maybe those if us in the correct areas of the world could submit projects for those who do not live in the area. I would be happy to submit someone idea and then ship the winner whatever prize was awarded.
