Astronaut Or Astronot: Round 1 Over, Round 2 Begins

For the last two weeks, we’ve been asking everyone over on hackaday.io to participate in the current round of community voting. We were asking everyone to choose the projects that were Most Likely To Be Widely Used. We just turned off voting for this round, and it’s time for round two: Which project is most likely to save the planet?

Before we get to that, I need to pick a random person on hackaday.io, figure out if they have voted, and if so, send off a $1000 gift card to the Hackaday store. Vidya time:

No one won a $1000 gift card for the Hackaday store this week. In lieu of that, we’re arming the t-shirt cannon and aiming it at three random people who did vote. They are, in order of appearance, [Nick], [dbcarp], and [Eugene].

If you’re wondering about the results of this current round of voting and which projects the Hackaday community think are most likely to be widely used, hold tight. There are a lot of votes, and all that needs to be tabulated and computed and presented in a friendly graphical format. Also, it’s Friday afternoon. The winners of the first round of voting will be announced on Monday.

Round Two…. Most Likely To Save The Planet

It’s time for a new round of voting! This time, the theme is, Most Likely To Save The Planet. Voting is easy, just go over to the community voting page. You will be presented with two projects entered in the Hackaday Prize. One of these projects will invariably be more likely to save the planet. It is your task to decide which one. Vote for the project that is more likely to save the planet, and you’re in the running for t-shirts or Hackaday store gift cards in the drawing next week.

Here’s a video showing you how to vote:

That’s all you have to do to vote in the Hackaday Prize community voting. Here’s a link to go do thatWe’ll do the same thing next Friday afternoon – choose a random person on Hackaday.io, and if they have voted, they get a $1000 gift card for the Hackaday store. The only losing move is not to play, so go vote.

  1. Which way do we vote if the probability of saving the planet is indistinguishable from zero for both presented projects? This seems to be the case for the vast majority of HaD Prize entries, most of which aren’t even pretending to have anything to do with saving the world.

    1. Some may reduce the damages while others project – produces waste/consume resources for no reason and make it worse.

Just about the only thing that would save the planet is a project of robot rebellion to kill off the humans and let thing restore. I here for one welcome our new robot overlords.

    2. This, its also why i didnt spend more then 10 or so votes last round, refreshing the page does NOT give new options 9 out of 10 times, and when you’ve done it 3 or 4 times, it just keeps looping the same projects

    1. I’m not getting how this works. I’ve seen a few reports of this recently, and if it’s just a (pull a random project, then pull another random project without looking at the first project) bug, we would have seen more of them earlier when there were fewer projects.

Bug submitted, but damned if I know what the hell is going on.

Either way, if that happens to you, just pick one. The left one, I guess.

      1. Some elucidation on the subject at hand would help clear up any cobwebs as opposed to a vague post about cockroaches or other crawling things.

It would also behoove you to note that the main bug is that “Flex Module” appears at least 2/5 of the time.

      2. If A =B, pull a third random number C would probably be an easy quicfixish that would reduce the odds.

I don’t know how many projects there are [N], but the probability of 3 random numbers being the same in a row [N*(1/N)^3], is way smaller than 2 in a row being the same [ N*(1/N)^2].

  2. There are some many projects without a cover picture that I am simply voting the ones that AT LEAST have a picture hahahaha. Another thing: there should exist a “skip” button, to avoid voting when two uninteresting projects are shown (alternative to refreshing the browser).
