Beautiful Modded NES for the 25th anniversary of Mega Man, plus bonus interview!

Today I had the pleasure of interviewing [PlatinumFungi] about this fantastic NES mod he did. This year is the 25th anniversary of the first Mega Man video game. Unhappy with the current celebratory actions of capcom, [PlatinumFungi] set out to create something he felt was worthy. He managed to pull that off pretty well.

The NES you can see in the video is fantastic looking. It has a beautiful shiny automotive finish, supplied by [Custom NES Guy] and a pixel perfect backlit Mega Man on top. Additional enhancements are stylized decals on the front of the game bay and matching labels on the sides and back. The cartridge is even illuminated while it is in place.

Check out some pictures after the break!

    Great video, great presentation,great product.
A small bug tho, the audio when your speaking is somehow low or noisy, I’m pretty sure you can design/build some super-neat microphone holders to stick on you and improve the only slightly annoying point which is for me the audio.

    Overall,love it!
    Keep up the good work.

  6. Cricri says:

Caleb: How did you do the cutout?
PlatinumFungi: I did it all with a dremel/file/sandpaper.
Me: *spits drink on keyboard* Whaaaaaaat?

  7. Ty Tower says:

Do you think you could give us the full name first just once then the acronym thereafter such as” having read the Foolish Blind Poster ( FBP ) thinks and then the FBP moves on”

  8. Hack Man says:

Should have milled the ABS. Laser cutting it would have been suboptimal.

  9. DeAthWaGer says:

“Unhappy with the current celebratory actions of capcom”

Really? I thought giving away Street Figher X Megaman for free is a pretty sweet deal.

  10. Filip Preda says:

I like how the community is spending effort with antedinosaurian games and crap apps that can run on TI 83s, that can be long trashed to stone age of the IT history, instead of concentrating efforts on third millenium stuff like, you know 2013 stuff… you coffee-converters you would know better (I surely can tell you what is all about, but I’m sure you all will be jumping at “trolls”, “flame-war” and that childish stuff only half-grown of IT can come up with.

      1) @ Filip Preda.
this website always was half outdated.
      why?
BECAUSE WE DEMAND IT BE THAT WAY!
      your outnumbered
… on this site, YOUr the weird one

this is a community of people that enjoy it,
if you hate it so much then leave.
there are plenty of other sites with articles
      that YOU consider ACCEPTABLE.
we do not need YOU to dignify and approuve OUR hobby.

WE WILL NOT CHANGE OUR LIKES AND HOBBYS BECAUSE YOU THINK ITS WRONG!

WE WILL NOT STOP BEING A COMMUNITY BECAUSE YOU THINK ITS WRONG!

… and flame war? lol i wont be coming back to read your response so its not war.
PS: so you think your not a troll?
      yeh right,
and im not a troll when i post pro-car arguements
      on a how-to-make-a-bike website

FYI technically its YOU making the verbal attack, insulting a HUGE community because you think it should not be interesting, MR THOUGHT POLICE!

      2) sweet build, this is _actually_ the FIRST time i hear about MegaMan outside of the world of DOOM/Skulltag/Zandronum/Odamex/ect. i did not know megaman was an actual game… thought it was just an addon that wouldnt go away(ppl keep playn it)

  11. that custom NES is so cool.
