i was poking around for some resources on making your cameras, the reason–i figure there’s some cool analog-meets-digital hacks that one can cook up taking some of the old tech and literally bolting it on to an old or cheap digital camera. post up other links if you have’em!
awhile back i wrote how to take gps data and use that to make satellite maps. well, at least once a week i get an email or instant message asking if there is a way to get gps data in to photos, or out. it seems a lot of people are really interested in this. which is great, imagine being able to search the web for locations and seeing the photos or sorting your photos by where they were taken automatically. here’s an app that helps that along–gpsphotolinker can be used to save gps position data to a photo. the latitude and longitude recorded by your gps unit while you were taking photos can be linked, and saved, to the photos.
it’s for mac only for now, if there’s a pc version that does the same thing i’ll post it up. this is a great tool for all sorts of camera / gps hack projects, we’ll have some of those up soon here too.

i’ve been fascinated with the idea of taking photos on a timed basis from a car, a pet, a kite, but all the gear and ways to do it were really expensive, plus i just wanted to take tons of photos, not 10 or 20. so using an old digital camera and a $1.50 part from radioshack, i rewired the camera to take shots over and over–mounted it to a car, a kite
i saw some lady buying her kid a $20 3-d book and figured there’s gotta be a simple way to make your own 3-d photos, turns out there are a few apps floating around, or you can use photoshop and as a bonus you grab photos from the nasa mars mission and make your own space versions.
this is really neat, a fellow starting playing around with his scanner and actually made it in to a digital camera. now you might be thinking, why? this was done back in 2000 when 2mp cameras were thousands of dollars, all for under $100, i’m going to pick upa cheap $49 scanner and see what’s possible now
i get asked a lot about how i make the satellite photo maps of places i run (seattle, nyc…) and here’s the step by step. i use a garmin forerunner gps, but just about any gps will work.

ya know all those cheap $10 disposable cameras a the drug stores? some of them can be used as regular cameras and you can pull the pictures off, it might not be worth the time if you’re a camera-pro, but i might try and make a timer and set it loose.
