Thursday Nano Hacks: Hiatus

Well, easyJet managed to lose Fabienne’s luggage, which had the Nano hack for the week. Clearly, this is the work of AOL. Here are some new links from readers. More links coming up later tonight.

Thursday Nano Hacks: Making Black IPod Headphones

headphones13

We are starting a new feature for Thursdays here at Hack A Day: Thursday Nano Hacks. Our “hack” for the day is more of a mod out of necessity: Those ugly white headphones with a black iPod nano? Ew! Please come back next Thursday for a real iPod nano hack alrighty?

Scroll on for our little stroll through recoloring cables, and please read the conclusion. (Let’s just say that this hack is not exactly the stuff dreams are made of.)

What you will need:
– iPod headphones. They only come in white.
– PlastiDip in black (we used the dipping kind, but we recommend the spray aerosol kind in black)
– a tiny paintbrush you can throw out when you’re finished
– toothpicks
– stick or chopstick to stir the PlastiDip
– coathangers
– masking tape
– lots of time to waste

IPod Nano Docks

nano truck

Here are two reader submitted iPod nano docks. [ian] found this guide for mounting the nano in a truck. The headunit already has a line in so Kevin just chopped up the nano’s retail packaging to make a nice holder.

I didn’t realize this, but the dock adapter that comes with the iPod doesn’t work with current products or at least not the mini dock. [Caius Durling] trimmed up his adapter a bit and installed it in his mini dock.

HOW-TO: Add An Auxilary Jack To Your Car

Auxilary Car Jack

Hello readers and welcome to another HOW-TO article. I originally was planning on doing the CVS Disposable Camcorder Hack, but it’s only 90% done. To answer questions of can it be reused?: Yes, it can. But if you want to see it in action, I’ll have it out and working at the first ever Hackaday meetup on Thursday. Come on out and see how it’s done or if you can’t make it, I’ll have it up next Tuesday for you guys.

But now we’re talkin’ audio. Sweet crisp sounding liquid music

IPod Shuffle Without ITunes

Martin Fielder did most of the hard work when it comes to using the iPod Shuffle without iTunes. All you have to do is copy the music over to your Shuffle like a normal mass storage device. Then run the database builder which takes care of all of the dirty work. Ohad took care of the final loose ends for Windows users by converting the Python script to an exe. Head over to his blog to pick up the zip file and start managing your own music, because… well… you’re not an idiot.

Shufflephones 2.0

 shufflephones 2.0

jim younkin is at it again.  earlier this month he created a pair of cordless ipod shuffle headphones.  now he’s out with an upgrade: shufflephones 2.0 — new hotness edition.

what i like about the second hack attempt is that he added another audio connector.  this could be used to connect to a stereo or to share music with a nearby friend.  it’s a pretty functional little headphone mod.

for version 3.0 — kickassness edition, i’m hoping to see the shuffle control interface mounted externally to the headphones so that you can switch tunes without taking the phones off.  hack on, jim!
