   Office machine was one of my first guesses.
   I went to a typewriter repair shop and showed them the “item” and they said “no way”, said they had been working on typewriters for 40 years and had never seen anything like it… I specifically asked if maybe it was from an IBM Selectric or some other electric typewriter. No was the answer. Must have gone to the wrong shop.
