Hackaday Podcast 081: Mask-apult, Beef Tallow, Grinding Melted Plastic, And Stretching Flowing Metal

Hackaday editors Mike Szczys and Tom Nardi chew the beef tallow as they take a tour through some of the best and most interesting articles from the past week, from kicking off another round of the popular Circuit Sculpture contest to building artisan coffee makers. We’ll look at the engineering behind the post-apocalyptic face mask launcher of our nightmares, and stand in awe at the intersection of orbiting spacecraft and lawn emojis. Several tiny remote controlled vehicles will be discussed, and we’ll take an unexpected look at how extruding plastic and aluminum might not be so different after all. Make sure to stick around until the end to learn why a little-known locomotive technology of the 1840s really sucked.

  1. Could it be that the publication dates of new episodes are always off? It seems that they are always set to midnight, e.g.:

This leads to the episodes always sliding to the back of my podcatcher queue, and I risk to miss it, as the app sorts new podcast episodes chronologically. Or is that a soundcloud thing and you can’t change it? :/

      1. Ah, I see now the comment section has striped all XML tags from my first comment. That is definitely one way to avoid HTML injection… :D
There should be a couple of “pubDate” tags around both date/times.

        1. Yeah, I see what you mean. Unfortunately we’re at the mercy of Soundcloud on this one. I just took a look and don’t see a way to changing the default time they list on the RSS feed. Not sure why they don’t use the scheduled publish time as the RSS feed time. Strange.

          1. Yeah, too bad. In case it could be a helpful data point: I have seen other Soundcloud feeds which have correct episode pubDates, so it does not seem to be a general problem with Soundcloud feeds.
But in any case: Thank you for trying to help with my minor annoyance! :)
