since we are on the topic of rubick’s cube hacks, i would probably be derelict in my duties if i didn’t mention the manhattan sculpture that a crew of hackers briefly transformed into 512-cubic-feet of rubick’s goodness.
this one definately ranks right up there with the mit media lab srubbing bubbles. art hacks are so incredible. they have a subversive way of giving regular folks a brief look at life through hacker goggles.
So can we have a few more details on the specifics of this hack? What does the cube normally look like? What do you mean by “briefly”? When did this happen? And is there a version of the picture with color?

Someone’s turned a billboard that had a london transport ad on it, into a fantastic mosaic, sticking lots of A4 sized bits of paper of different colours over it. There is a cube like this that rotates in Ann Arbor, MI. Here is a link to a design sketch of it (In reality it is black).

I was walking through Astor Pl. last night, and I was shocked to discover that the cube is GONE! (Not the Rubik’s Cube, the big metal thing.) In its place is a spindly PVC cube outline. A search of local news sites revealed nothing.

So this wasn’t a ‘hack’ at all, but maybe just a protective cover for moving the piece for repairs.

i don’t think ‘hack’s always have to be technology related. maybe the strict definition is, but i like stuff like this on hackaday.

just because it did not happen recently does not make it unpertinent. this is not a hacking news site, it is a site that shows us hacks.

Not technology related, but really there right now, I took that picture on Friday. I like how the MIT hackers call computer hacks “cracks”, the word hack is probably used incorrectly by most people, why shouldn’t it be claimed by artists…
