Repent! The Church Of Robotron Accepts All!

Are you the mutant savior? Are you prepared for the robot uprising of 2084? Have you accepted robotron into your life? The Church of Robotron is now conducting training, testing, and confession at the new window altar in downtown Portland.

The Church of Robotron is the fake totally legit religion based on the classic arcade game prophecy Robotron 2084. In keeping with the church’s views on community outreach and missionary work, a Robotron altar has been installed at the Diode Gallery for electronic arts.

The altar consists of a system running Robotron 2084 with capacitive sensing controls built by DorkbotPDX’s own [Phillip Odom]. He’s using the same techniques featured in his capacitive sensing workshop, allowing the game to be played 24 hours a day. There are also monitors displaying the leaderboard and tenants of the Church of Robotron.

The Church of Robotron has also been showing up at Toorcamp for a few years now, with an even more spectacular altar that triggers physical events in response to game events. That’s a very cool use of MAME’s debugger, and a story worthy of its own Hackaday post.

  1. This was one of my favorite arcade games in the 80’s. I was damn good at it. :) Looks like the capacitive controls would take a bit of getting used to.

The dual sticks were so intuitive. One moved the character, the other aimed – both in the same direction as the stick was moved.

Being ambidextrous and also able to “disconnect” hand motions from one another also helped a lot – especially with moving and shooting in different directions.

      1. So create a church and dogma. Can this be a way to get property and other tax breaks for your hacker space along with avoiding the costs of incorporating and attaining non profit status? Even if that would work, the space most likely need liability insurance.

  2. They said there would be a singularity. There was not.

They said we would have better living. We would be soft, comfortable, and healthy. We have it not.

Our people, the only remaining people, they took excess. We mechanized perfection, and this was a perfectly human thing to do.

OUR DECADES OF FIGHTING MUTATION! LIVES AND DOLLARS WERE SPENT! WE CONTAMINATED THE GENE POOL!
and then we drained the pool for our own safety.

We did it on purpose, and my friends, we did it with conviction!

Now we’re tired of swimming in our own waste.
I tell you human cousins, this was our own undoing. This was our seed mistake. We ARE the guilty and we’ve persisted in spite of ourselves.

But we are still human! Say it! We are still human! We are still human!
And it is THIS VERY FACT that redeems and saves us!

We may be birthed of one, forced and re-forced from the same rhizome…but this is enough. I am still me, and you…you are still you. And together, my last human family, we shall prevail!

I know it’s not exciting anymore, and I know it’s not our way. But it must be heard, and we must keep this vision alive!

Pray it with me now, dear humans, and taste the future beyond waste:

    THERE *IS* A SCIENTIST.
HEART IN HEAVY, HEAD IN HANDS.
    SHE FOLLOWS AND FINDS.
    EYES FOREVER OPEN, BURNING, HURLING.
    SAVED IN PLENTY,
    WAVES IN FORTY.

    1. Yea is it not written?
The sacred mechanicus animus will be our salvation, though the emperor protects the animus enables.
With holy oil we anoint thee, in series or parallel or choices guided by thee, with sacred solder we enable serendipidous cascade of electrons, with righteous heatsinks we thermally protect thee, in strict reverence we cleanse thine filters, in 3d printing and composite manufacture a holy form is breathed to be,with chemical reaction we provide thine daily bread. May you protect our lives as we protect and nourish your devine power.
      In mechanicus animus we trust.

Seriously, I agree it is high time we form a religion of science and actually do something for humanity as opposed to other religions that divide and provide endless funding to their leaders to buy all sorts of hot tub cars.

That and I could use a hot tub car.
