Do you know Morse code already? Or are you maybe trying to learn so you can be an old school ham? Either way, you could have a lot of fun with [felix]’s great little entry into the 2024 Tiny Games Contest — Morse Quest.
This minimalist text-based adventure game is played entirely in Morse code. That is, the story line, all the clues, and the challenges along the way are presented by a blinking LED. In turn, commands like LOOK, TAKE, and INVENTORY are entered with the slim key on the lower right side. A wee potentiometer allows the player to adjust the blink rate of the LED, so it’s fun for all experience levels. Of course, one could always keep a Morse chart handy.
The brains of this operation is an Arduino Nano, and there’s really not much more to the BOM than that. It runs on a 9 V, so theoretically it could be taken anywhere you want to escape reality for a while. Be sure to check out the demo video after the break.
“Hackaday io tiny games chalenge” for those curious what te front says.
Add a piezo speaker!
Yes, or an earphone jack! (Bluetooth?)
How about an electro mechanical relay?
It makes a nice addition to the light.
A real incandescent lamp would be even better, by the way.
Those 3v or 6v lamps from the bicycle spots would be nice.
The relay could be used to switch it on/off.
This is cool. I vote this one as winner.
seconded!
Add some external pins and also enter it for the SAO contest!

Interesting video. Sound would be best. As a small point of note, writing dots and dashes is the worst way to learn the code. Sound to ear and write character is better, if you want any amount of speed at all. Writing dots and dashes adds an unneeded layer of complexity for the brain to do a “lookup table”… Thanks for this video.
Why no Morse spaces?
This is absolutely brilliant but you should not write the dots and dashes if you want to actually learn morse code. For morse beginners it would be really nice to have a mode with wide spaces between each character so that their brain gets the time to process the info. A small buzzer would be nice also as most people into it can read morse by ear.
