The MegaSquirt electronic fuel injection system has a completely open design to allow for easy construction and tweaking. The project has been around for quite a while and has a well established user community with many success stories. The open design means you can construct a unique fuel injection system; You can combine high performance parts with OEM parts from various manufacturers because the device has been designed from the ground up to be flexible. The MegaSquirt is well documented and you’ll be fully aware of what you are getting yourself into before you take the plunge.

This thing is great, I have it on my car and it is sweet. There are multiple firmwares for it that add a lot of features. One such being Megasquirt n’ Spark-Extra, it now controls both the fuel and ignition system of my car, and has the outputs for sequential shift lights, water injection control, NOS, and a bunch of other things.
Great project for gearheads and electronics people alike.
Cool stuff,

Now this looks like a good automotive hack. I’ll have to check this puppy out.
How many injectors can this thing handle?
It’s fine if it’s a fuel rail system, but I don’t think it’ll work in my diesel..
It’ll run any internal combustion engine with 1-12 injectors. High or low impedance, though on the old PCB2.2 low impedance injectors often needed an upgrade to the unit to handle them properly. The new PCB3.0 has the upgraded circuitry built in and handles low-z injectors with no problem. This is really the best bang for your buck in Engine Management Systems. It’ll do just about anything you throw at it and come back for more.
I’d be glad to assist with any questions anyone may have concerning the unit. It is a DIY project so some of the implementation details have to be worked out for your car but there are alot of people who have gove before you and are more than willing to help you out as long as you’ve done your homework and aren’t expecting them to do all of it for you.
You’ll learn a ton about EFI and tuning, and the sense of accomplishment when you start driving your car (and outrunning your buddies) on an ECU to built yourself is amazing!
