$125 Off The Evalbot Is A Steal

When you see $125 off something you probably assume it cost several times that to start with. Nope, this drastic discount leaves just $25 plus shipping. Use coupon-code: 2JLP-R4XRT3 when ordering the little rover. There’s a quick video snippet of it embedded after the break.

What you’ll get is a Stellaris ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller on a board with a bunch of goodies.

  • MicroSD slot
  • USB host and device connectors
  • I2C audio with speakers
  • Ethernet connector
  • 96×6 OLED display
  • Motors
  • Optosensors
  • Bump detectors

As always, we want to hear about the hacks you come up with once you have this little guy in hand.

[update, the code is now expired]

[final update — Someone from TI explains what is going on.]

—-  from the comments.

As some posts already note, the coupon code is only available to ESC Boston attendees. That said, we’re psyched about all of your interest and understand there seems to have been some confusion, so TI plans to fulfill all of the finalized orders to date. We’re working on some logistics in getting the code up and running again for ESC Boston attendees, but proof of ESC registration will be required. Stay tuned.

We hear you about the e-store and are working as quickly as possible to avoid issues in the future. Thanks for your patience.

Bottom line – we’re glad to see the excitement around EVALBOT and look forward to checking out your projects! We encourage you to share them on our e2e Forums at http://e2e.ti.com/

  1. tried to order earlier but took to long and eventually had to head home. Now it looks like they probably need to clear out logs or something cause their server done run out of space.

  2. gheesh, i hope someone @ TI is getting fired… i probably won’t buy one now (and the 2 launchpads i was thinking about getting) (changed my mind), but i would have 3+ hours ago…

  3. Lol, got an email confirmation (6537) followed by one saying it ‘failed authorization’ and I should go back to their website to ‘re-authorize’ it. Of course, the website is now completely dead :(. Hoping it’ll still go through as planned tomorrow.

  4. Same Experience. Site went up a few minutes ago, checkout was very fast (also grabbed one of the $4.30 MSP430 dev boards). Free shipping.

I received confirmation as well as failed authorization emails. Fingers crossed.

    The code is still good!

  5. I hope they don’t get back ordered. Was going to buy a different eval board based on the same proc family for $100. I need it sooner than later for my undergrad capstone. There is a lack of documents for this thing on TIs website tho. Keeping my fingers crossed that both i2c and 2 or more pwm lines are broken out on those headers.

Luminart Micro mcu’s are the shit btw. I highly recommend them. Especially the ones with ethernet MAC and PHY(!) onboard.

  6. Got this last week (the coupon code was given out at ESC ~2 weeks ago). I got a copy of the book at the con as well, and chatted with the TI / Stellaris team… they’re good people. Definitely a neat platform to play with uC/OS on… not enough pin headers on it, though.

Now I just need the wireless module and the wristwatch they had at the booth to control it…

  7. I hope the coupon still works when the website starts working again. I thought TI would have learned to do better after the website failure when the released the $4.30 msp430 microcontroller dev board.

  8. Hi guys,
I ordered one for my self and one for my mate just today (5th October) and the coupon still works! Although on my second basket i forgot to fill in the coupon and was charged 149$ so i’m trying to contact T.I to cancel the order. Does anyone know an email address or any other method to contact T.I sale representative beside calling them? There are zillions numbers on their page i just can’t figure out which to call and i’m from Aus so the time different is a pain T_T.

  9. Wouldn’t call that desperate. It’s pretty smart really, selling pretty much high-end gear for almost free is sure to attract a lot of attention, which means that they’ll get a shit ton of new customers.

  10. That all of five minutes it stopped loading error pages I rocked it out! Go internet, go!

And this is an amazing marketing strategy by TI. I’m becoming a huge fan of the corporation in general because of their amazing hardware deals for the home tinkerer.

I was talking to my brother, and we decided to call it “perfectly devious marketing”.

  11. @Dids
I totally agree that it will atract fresh from college engineers but mine question is why now ? (Microchip was doing this as long as they exist, Atmel did not lift a finger but get lucky with arduino rise) So such radical changes make me wonder if TI predicted financial problems if they don’t change anything

  12. Took me 14 hours, but it worked !
    Order #6716.
    Thanks HaD! Thanks TI!
People really need to set up some kind of traffic shaping for this… Maybe some king of portal that dishes out a maximum of (say) 1000 cookies that allow access to the estore, with a 10min inactivity timeout.
The portal would get smashed but would be easier to super oversize, and its code would be ultra simple.

  13. Order Number 6692 , first order nr here mentioned was 5704 :) , to bad it seams the bot with the book is sold out… would not mind to pay the extra 50$ to get the book…
W’ll see what we do with it when it gets here in a month or 4 :)

  14. Oww yeah, ordering went fine!!
    Thanks HaD!!!
This ‘ll make an excellent bot for my son :D
gonna plug a webcam on it and a wireless router..
    we’ll see what happens next..
ps can anybody give us a link to a (free) pdf version of the book? or just some more documentation?
    Thanks
