What is this voter lottery we speak of? On Friday we’ll draw a random number and see if that hacker profile on Hackaday.io has voted at least once in this round, which started on Monday.
If they voted they’ll received a prize package packed with all kinds of prototyping hardware. This cycle offers several breakout boards, a bunch of programmers and debuggers, as well as a digital multimeter and a bench power supply (full list here). For the hackers who haven’t registered a vote? Nothing!
We’ll be drawing the number from a hotel room in Vegas since we’ll be there for DEFCON. If you’re also attending the conference track us down to show off your own hardware or just to grab some stickers.

It’s kind of tedious having to check the info in a new tab before voting – could the vote page be modified to at least show the description for each below? It’s too much like Tinder now, voting on images alone :-P
Every project should be able to be voted for independently instead of this comparison nonsense.
Several times I run across two projects that both deserve votes, and other times I just refresh the page because neither project deserves a vote.
If I have a project that I’d normally rate 4/10, and one that I’d rate 5/10, and I vote for the 5/10 one because that’s the comparison, it gets the same score as if I was comparing a 9/10 to an 8/10. In that case the 8/10 gets penalized whereas it’s a perfectly worthy project, and way better than the 5/10 one that I just voted for. How does that even make sense?
Because things are random you could conceivably have an 7/10 project that only ever was compared to 6/10 or below projects (which would likely get a score of 90%+), and that will have more votes than a 9/10 project that was only ever compared to 8/10 or above projects (which would be 50%).

The true winner of “Too Cool for Kickstarter” should probably be Moti (http://hackaday.io/project/249) which actually states: “We had a Kickstarter fail last year, so who knows what’s next.”

IMHO The polling prizes are actually so much better than the top 6th to 50th winners of $1000 “grab bag” of parts. At least you know well ahead of time what they are.
For some “lucky” person that have to pay a couple of hundred bucks for import duty + taxes etc. for grab bags, those are hit & misses. They could pack you parts you don’t use at all.

Or better still pay for their purchases at digikey/element-14 etc that have D.D.P. (named place of destination duty paid), so that the winners doesn’t have to worry about import duty/brokage fees, or local sales tax.

the project that will win it will be a new voting system for hackaday. really, this is so shitty.
I don’t know what’s going on with the voting system, but I keep refreshing due to getting the same 5-6 projects that I have NO interest in, and they keep coming up, often with one not even changing between refreshes.
I’m *sure* we have more submitted projects than 4 bread boarded android/ras-pi/*** interface projects, one blue-sky no hardware project, and one iOS internet of things device.
In fact, opening the main hackaday.io link immediately shows more.
So why can’t the vote system open more than the SAME few options through 30 refreshes?
