SparkFun’s Free Day Is Nearly Upon Us…

As I’m sure many of you already now, today is January 7th. While that might not have any real significance normally, today this means that our favorite hobby supplier, SparkFun, is giving away up to $100,000 of electronic goodness. We know we have our shopping carts filled to the brim, and we’re sure that most of you do too. With the start of Free Day being roughly 10 minutes away, we recommend that everyone man their shopping carts…. This should be interesting…

  1. @Stendell – Its not a matter of your router’s timeout. Think about 10,000 people trying to run through a doorway. Its all about getting in at the right time. You gotta be like George Castanza and push that old lady over, getting your syn in when a connection slots available. And then… praying it completes the connection.

I got through! I was about to remote into a school computer with a gigabit internet connection, but it looks like I got through on my crappy Clearwire connection. Still waiting for a confirmation email, but at least I have an order number and a screenshot of the confirmation page.

    I ordered a 6DOF IMU, $89.95

  3. dang – ready 2 hours before in an 9 computer lab, each computer was logged in with the shopping cart up, after an hour and a half of constant refreshing all computers I got to the credit card part and… fail.

I have no idea how anyone actually got through.

  4. so disappointed, i got to the screen where you entered in your cc details when it was at $175, and it could never get past it..

    hrm..

i don’t think ill be using sparkfun again, if this is how they treat their customers

  5. Quit bitchin’ about the script kiddies, unless you know one that’s reliably gotten around a captcha.

Folks, c’mon, can’t you see the good part of this giveaway?

(Spoken as a guy who didn’t get jack, but still had a bit of fun anyway)

  6. I’m done with hack-a-day, you guys ruined it for people who actually know how to use the stuff sparkfun sells. Now 1000 idiots have just bought 100 worth of stuff the don’t know what to do with.

I’m prety annoyed with sparkfun too, 1:45 minutes waiting for the damn shipping page to load. I’m gonna go buy my xbee from ebay now.

  7. heh… NOW the payment page loads… the irony is not lost on me, and I may order the stuff anyhow… no, wait, robotshop has it for $10 each (wanted 2)… think I’ll go save $20 elsewhere. Sorry Sparkfun, you’re just too expensive now. oh… the irony.

  8. clicked submit order, last step, 3 separate times. all 3, no go. 3 complete chances, from cart to “submit this order to try for the free day discount” and still no good. thanks anyway sparkfun.

What the crap are you talking about “treat their customers”? Are you blatantly slow? Did your parents drop you on your head? I didn’t get anything either, but I’m not sobbing about a company that gave away 100,000 dollars worth of their merchandise to their customers with good intentions. Tell me, do you get all pissy when it’s not you who wins the lottery? “oh, boo hoo! i’ll never buy a lotto ticket again!” Do us all a favour and shut it. If you didn’t get anything, you didn’t get anything, pansy.

  10. Well its over, and now the site is working again, fail sparkfun, very disappointed, I feel this slowness was done on purpose, makes me less want to buy from them again for this poor performance of a show
