  1. For the holes around the base of the can for ventilation, you can use a regular can opener (non-electric) to put those triangle shaped holes in the can. Wouldn’t work on the shortened top without the lip, though.*2 cents*

  3. When I first started working here I was amazed by the scriptkiddie “tips” that would come in. I’m sure Vince will pick out some good ones. The “…stop fur coats” is one of the more perplexing varieties. I guess there are people out there that think we’re are some l33t squad of h4x0rs ready to reign terror down upon any website that they disagree with. I am suprised stuff like this isn’t showing up in the comments.
Don’t get me wrong; most of the tips are great. If you want to send us something (i.e. an mp3 of you asking a question you want answered in the podcast) you could always host the file temporarily at a site like http://yousendit.com and just send us the link with description in the tip form.

  4. They always say “don’t smoke ____ out of a coke can!” the chemicals can apparently make you sick and sterile! I’d be careful with this thing if i were you.

  5. I’ve made a few pop can stoves, and found my own design much better than this one. I use a couple of red bull cans and pressurize the stove. I’ve used it for many many miles of paddling and backpacking trips.

check out this link, which is the site that is really the king of pop can stove sites:

  6. Yeah I made one of these in Boy Scouts about 6 mounths ago when a guy came to give a talk on a backpacking trip he was taking. He was hiking all the way from mexico/USA border area, im not sure where, to the canadian border. Super long. Anyway he used one of these stoves the whole way! They work crazy good!

  7. Yeah, I liked the podcast too. I don’t have much to compare it to, though.

Any chance we’ll hear any of the editors other than Vince? Not that Vince is bad or anything–I just think it’d be cool to hear some other voices there.

  8. damn it vince, stop reading my mind!

i have a folder on my imap server called ‘hackaday-wtf’. i’ve been archiving ridiculousness since january in hopes of featuring them in a podcast.

joshua, once i figure out how to get my new baby to stop crying, i’m going to make a stab at getting back in the game here. be warned, the timbre in vince’s radio voice is so much better than anything you’ll hear from me.

i’m still awaiting more audio comments from readers. please call 206.888.hack and leave a voice mail. if you are shy, don’t say your name. nobody needs to know. and besides, we’re all geeks here anyway.

oh, and to whoever left that weirdo heavy breathing message… oh nevermind.

  9. I like the GBA accellerator, but meh if it simply fast or slows the whole works.

I enjoyed the podcast to the extent that the echo allowed, but that’s been said.

I’ve done some hardware hacks to some toys and I’ve documented them so I’ll send em in, what the heck!
