This week we saw an interesting animated motorcycle tail light over on Reddit. But there wasn’t really enough background to get its own feature.

The NeuroKnitting project captures brainwaves by weaving them into a scarf.

On Semiconductor is showing off an 8x8x8 LED cube which they claim as 12,000 LEDs. We can’t figure out where all those LEDs are used in the design, but maybe you can. Here’s one that we know has 4096 LEDs in its matrix.

[Jeff] used hard drive platters as the disc section of his original Enterprise desk model.

Play around with an SNES controller and Arduino by following [Damon’s] guide.

Hackaday Alum [Jeremy Cook] posted an update of his laser graffiti project. His earlier effort used camera tricks to capture the image but this time around he’s exciting phosphorescent glow material to make a persistent display visible to the human eye.

This server hides in plain sight after being wrapped in a hard cover book binding. Hopefully this won’t cause heat dissipation problems.

[Trumpkin] built his own Nixie tube wristwatch which we think has the potential to be as neat as the one [Woz] wears.

    1. I’m with Vimto, I don’t think it was rushed at all, someone just wasn’t paying attention, it’s clearly 16x16x16 = 4096 , if it’s really tri-colour and not RGB then it’ll be 8192, if it’s actually RGB then it’ll be 12288 leds.

There are so many things wrong in just that part that I’m not sure I’d want to purchase much of on-semis LED stuff :-D

      1. Yes, I think the person the wrote the script incorrectly multiplied (16 x 16 x 16) x 3 with the ‘3’ representing the (R-LED + G-LED + B-LED), to get 12288.

        Obviously, it should be (16 x 3) x (16 x 3) x (16 x 3) = 110592!

    1. red turn signals are allowed in the states, but the rest of the stuff is globally illegal. and once the housing is opened, it’s illegal– even if it was put right back together..

      1. saying that something is globally illegal is pretty damn uninformed.
For ex. in Finland, you arent allowed to have red as other than brake lights and blue is not allowed anywhere.
Yellow animated lights for ex. are allowed.

you sir should A) do research before you post B) post less grand posts C) stop posting.

    2. Thats my tail light, It will have an inspection switch that will make it operate like a normal tail light when needed. There will also be robotic turn signals that will come out from under the tail when on then retract and hide back under the bike when done. You can see a video of my prototype for the turn signals here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pyepf-GaSOI. Its an early working model I have a few changes to make before milling out of aluminum.

maybe pedantic, but the neuroknitting project KNITS brainwaves into a scarf, it doesn’t weave them, thats a totally different method of producing fabric.
