Why Get Dressed When There Are Software Pants?

With so many of us working from home over the last two years, it’s really become apparent that people generally dislike sitting all day with pants on. Until such a utopian time when all clothing is considered unisex, and just as many men as women are kicking it in loose, flowing skirts and dresses, you may want to remember to actually wear something on your lower half, uncomfortable though pants may be. But there is another way — you could build [Everything Is Hacked]’s pants filter and continue to be a chaos agent. Check out the video after the break.

These pants go as wide as you please.

That’s right, whether you forego or just forget to dress yourself below the equator, the pants filter has you covered. It works like you might expect — machine learning tracks body landmarks and posture to figure out where your NSFW region is and keep it under wraps.

By default, it blurs everything below the belt, or you can draw on pants if you’re inclined to be in revealing tighty-whities and prefer more coverage. You can adjust the width of the pants to cover the covid-19 you may have put on since 2020, and even change the pants to match your shirt.

We love that [Everything Is Hacked] had the um, gumption to test the pants filter in public at what appears to be a local taco joint. After the first few rounds of weird looks, he switched to a pants moustache to save face.

Want to add even more fun to those boring video calls? Try connecting up some vintage hardware, or install a pull chain to end those sessions with a gesture that won’t get you fired.

The Scots had the right idea. Wear a kilt.

  2. I must be some kind of bizarro. I can’t imagine anything *less* comfortable than running around without pants on. Skin sticks to furniture upholstery, and it seems like there’s always some piece of furniture waiting to “bite” me on the ankles.

Do people really, seriously bum around the house without pants, or is this some kind of humorous meme that has gone too far?

    1. Maybe it’s a difference in furniture. I have had a leather chair, a fake leather desk chair, and some vinyl (or other plastic) covered folding chairs; I would not sit on any of those without pants. But I wouldn’t sit on many of them for any period of time, because they were not very comfortable.

But the upholstered sofa and chairs, even my desk chair has woven fabric covers, those are all quite comfy.

I wouldn’t want an upholsted chair in a dining room, but small apartment life means not having a dining room!

  3. Umm.. nope. I don’t get it. I’ve seen enough other no-pants references to get that this is a thing. but in most situations I feel much better with pants, thank you!

I think the problem is more that too many people have prioritized style over comfort and utility. Yes, I get that people want to look good but I’m pretty sure that for most of us comfortable pants is more stylish than no-pants at all.

Find a pair that is loose fitting, and has slightly short legs. No I’m not talking about knickers, but the cuffs shouldn’t be dragging on the ground. And pockets, get pockets! I don’t care what it does to your lines. Save that for the singles bar. (app-dating, just don’t do it) We are tool using apes, not monkeys. Surely you have something that you would like to have conveniently stored on your person!

I know, comfortable pants aren’t going to give you sexy curves, a nice ass or an appearance that is 10 pounds lighter than you really are. But that just makes you look normal, not ugly. And it’s not like going pantsless would either. Unless of course you are among the lucky (or dedicated) few for whom it would. In that case please, skip the Zoom filters and just go for it! Enjoy that fresh air!

      1. I’m jealoous. I miss working from home!

I have to wear Khakis at the office except Fridays when I can wear jeans.

I HATE wearing khakis. I suppose objectively khakis are probably more comfortable than jeans. But.. ever since high school until now (except in college) khakis have been what I am required to wear while at school or work and jeans have been what I wear the rest of the time, except when it’s too hot then shorts.

So anyway.. my brain is programmed now to associate khakis with doing what I have to do and jeans with doing what I want to do so I really dread putting them on.

          1. camo pajama pants, lightweight, not heavy flannel… unless you’re close they look like camo combats or cargos, and if ppl clock them as jamas, they’re still camo, so it’s like is this guy a total suck, or toxically masculine???… so it balances out to “normal dude” … well that’s my theory… you can at least wear them to Walmart without feeling overdressed.

No need to wait for utopian times, start wearing skirts today!
(I started back in 2018, never regretted it.)
