When you include the cost of work, fertilizers, pesticides, machinery, food storage and even preparation it makes living off the land not so viable and romantic. I am a software developer and database administrator. I can easily afford to eat out every day. Public transport in Warsaw is pretty good so I don’t even need to own a car (so less money wasted). People in suburbs and villages cry when they see the prices of petrol and diesel. It makes me feel like a superhuman compared to them.

We grow hydroponic tomatoes. We start them in rockwool cubes. put them in the hydroponic beds. and harvest tomatoes when they are ripe.

I’d be more interested in an array of tomatoes being grown under slightly different soil moisture and humidity conditions and being monitored by computers to see what results in the highest productivity. This is fun, but I really want a closed-loop feedback system for optimized tomato growth.
