Hack A Honda/Acura Navigation System

Acura Honda

if you have 2 MDXs, and NSX, and an RSX like we do, this might be for you! seriously check it out. honda and Acura have their little built in GPS navigation screens to help guide you to wherever…well that’s gotta look boring after about 1000 miles, so spice it up with some customade skins. there is even a blue screen of death background, which is a wonderful thing. you’ll need a program called dumpnavi  that will let you change it. there’s little documentation but the source code is right there. it’d be cool to see some BMWS, infinitis, and other luxury cars hacked.

There is a GUI version, a console version, and good ol’ source code. pick your poison and if anyone actually….wants to try this, please let us know! thanks [pantz]

  1. Tried it on an ’03 TL and couldn’t find the version button. The three key combination instead took me to a daignostics mode that didn’t have access to the version information as far as I could tell. Any help out there!

  2. I’ve got a ’03 MDX. I found the bootloader file (josiah – after holding 3 button – go to version tab, hold menu for another 5 – should give up bootloader file name). But the GUI program doesn’t open bootloader file – BN2HH110.bin. thoughts?

  3. one of the cool things about working for a company that makes these things is can do great hacks when you have the source code. Mine is hacked to show the channel name from the radio scanner. I changed the splash screen to show my car and marketing rejected it cos it shows the mitis logo on the bonnet. I fixed that by getting a hot babe I know to stand in front of the car. That pink mini-skirt hides the logo nicely ;-) Next hack on the list is to change the speed camera warning sound to use the robot from the ‘Lost In Space’ TV series, you know “warning, warning, danger will robinson!”.

  4. Anyone have a hack for BMW’s nav system to remove the annoying legal disclaimer which you have to ‘accept’ every time you start the dang car? Clicking a liability shrinkwrap for my car every day is totally annoying!

  5. Same as Josiah’s. I tried it on an ’02 TL and couldn’t find the version button. The three key combination instead took me to a daignostics mode that didn’t have access to the version information as far as I could tell. Any help out there!

  6. I have a 2000 honda odyessey with nav and I need to upgrade the nav dvd but the dealership wants to put it in me by charging me a $210 for a cd/dvd that costs 29cents to make. I REFUSE to pay full price!!!!! they are smoking some phat rock!!!!! anyone help me out with finding an updated version for less?

  8. Does anyone have voice upgrades to swap out the plane jaine honda voice. I would love a jap girl voice that yells and swears at you, “you miss da turn a-hole” or “turn around you f*&%^”…any suggestions?

  9. Anyone know if there is a way to update the 2003 Navi system to the 2005 system? Is it an easy software update? does using a newer nav disc do that? is it a major hardware swap?

  10. Didn’t work on my ’04 Accord V6. There’s only 6 BIN files and tells me that nag modification is not supported on my car. Then when I try to midify the bitmap without the nag, it tells me that I have an invalid XIP file.
So, I have to live with the standard screens :(

  11. To somewhat answer Jon’s question: You can update the factory 2003 OS to the 2005 OS, however the only way I know how is to use the PC Card slot under the DVD slot-load. Unfourtunatly the only way I know of to do this is to bring it to the dealer and have them take care of it.

  12. Great site. I have an older 1997 Acura with a bad hard drive. Acura upgraded these older systems with a flash card in a PCMCIA adaptor to eliminate the spining drive failure issues. I am looking for several bad files I was unable to recover from my old drive. Does anyone have the files from this vintage system I could download?

  13. anyone use the PC slot in the Accord nav (2006) to play mp3’s, I’ve heard some people do it with the 06 civic, just wondering if it’s possible (using a pc card adaptor to compact flash or SD.

  14. I have Honda CL-7 2003 model. I have imported this car from Japan and every thing is in Japanese language. Could any body tell me how to change a language for navigation system. Also i want to know if there is a way to use the DVD rom for DVD based movies and how phone steering swicth working?and want 2 set the clock the time so plzzzzzz need help badly…

  15. We have a Honda Civic Hybrid 06 and play MP3’s off the PCMCIA flash card all the time, it works great. You have to make sure that you use a fast card or than can be a lag between when you start the car and when the music starts coming out as the radio has to read the files of the card. This lag only happens at power up so slow cards do not effect playback after start.

  16. I tried this on a 2006 Honda Accord EX. Didn’t work for me. After hitting menu for 5 seconds after Version screen, nothing indicates a “Loading filename” or any .BIN files. Only saw 3 pages of screens with nothing but version numbers. Bummer.

  17. I know this may be a silly question, but since there is a dvd player on these navi systems, is there a way to reprogram the system to play dvds on the display? I just bought a 2006 Honda Pilot and I’d rather use the nav display than by another dvd system for the back. Thanks!

  18. I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey and I tried to edit the files from may nav disc but the downloaded software would not reconize the bin files from my disc. Does anyone know of any other software that I could use to open/extract these files. Also, on the Honda nav screen there is no statement that says files loading or anything like that. Any assistance would be great.

    Thanks

  19. doyle I am having the sort of same problem. On my 2006 Accord EX I go to extract the BIN files and it extracts like 2-3 files but then gives me a error message..

And yes when you go into the system and you get into the diagnostics menu and hit version and then hold menu down the next screen nowhere does it say loading let alone loading filename.

  20. My friend sent me a copy of the nav disc from his new ’06 Acura TL. I wanted to use it in my ’03. When I put the disc in, the display says ‘Incorrect dvd inserted- see dealer’. Anyone know how to make this ’06 dvd work in my ’03 Acura TL? Thx.

  21. Ok so i treid to hack my Nav screen and well it never worked. However i want to use my PC card slot for mp3s on my EX-l 2006 honda accord. I would like to get the USB model but when i didnt close my player in the trunk it said that it was open so i think ill have to get one that has a memory card in it. Similiar to this in the civic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hc3pcDM_JV0…ch=Ipod%20Civic. I was wondering if any one has done this??? I would like to know if i could maybe cut out a part so i could use the USB and connect a ipod to it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
