The Big Red Juicer

Big Red Juicer

ahhh, yes. we knew one day that 400mhz would not be the fastest thing in the world on a pc. it’s gotten so out of control, that this juicer is a 433mhz beast of blending fury, well….two microcontrollers worth. It’s got wireless and it makes the absolute perfect juice combination. Using built in sensors and other fun stuff, it can measure the exact proportions for your custom made apple juice….everytime. It takes it’s commands via a keyboard or wireless remote and dispenses juices from above. My god, this world is getting better everyday. What’s next cornell? Wireless Egg beaters?

Making New Fingerprints

Homemade Fingerprints

there are a few movies out there that have some nutty storyline that involves some guy using brand new fingerprints so he doesn’t get caught. i think one is Gone in 60 seconds but i might be wrong. anyways, we’ve all wanted to go get new fingerprints and proceed to go wild with our new identity. well it’s possible to do it and it’s not insanely hard. Plus, in the process you’ll learn how to dust for fingerprints like a real detective! but if you have a home depot or hardware store with all the supplies near you, a free afternoon, and patience, you’re one step on your way to a new identity. who’s got the coolest fingerprint is the question to ask obviously.

The Punchable Alarm Clock

Punch Me Alarm Clock

my kinda hack right here which im sure many of you can relate to. this alarm clock is not just an alarm clock. it is one that is scared. scared of shock. thus, if you punch, kick, chuck a dremel at it when the alarm goes off, it will remain quiet. this is no simple hack mind you, but it’s not too hard if you can solder onto a pcb board and read hand-made plans just fine. a little more soldering and you’re done! you can now kick you alarm clock at will to make it snooze. you snooze, alarm clock = lose. very nice hack [mr. hackadayfan]

i highly reccomend checking out the “greatest hits volume 2” video. lots of laughs.

Hackaday Lazy Afternoons

Lazy Afternoons

back again with the insanely unofficial hackaday lazy afternoons! i’ve decided the following:

lazy afternoons will happen three two times a week. wednesday and friday.
hackaday links will also be back. on mondays only. mondays because that gives all you beautiful people out there time to email me some great stuff over the weekend for both links and lazy afternoons. and if you want to get your stuff on here faster, include either of the following in the subject line when sending us an email:

lazy afternoons: lazy afternoons – blah blah blah
hackaday links: hackaday links – blah blah blah

got it hotshot? good. on with the lazy afternoon, which today, is going to be especially lazy. normally, they will be easy to do hacks, or once in awhile, something just outright lazy.

Cardboard Box Boat
we got the challenge in our email to “make a cardboard box boat that rivals ours”. thanks, but no thanks. maybe one day we’ll make an urban one for west philadelphia, but we really have nowhere to use it or try it out. but, if our readers to, we ask that you try it. because this is just lazy. it’s not only a cardboard boat. it’s a real one you can use. you can paddle it, stand in it, lay around in it. whatever. there’s no website, but by looking at some pictures you can see that it’s not too hard to make with glue, duct tape, and cardboard boxes.

that being said. go forth and make cardboard boats. next monday we’ll be back, in the hammock, with another lazy afternoon.

lazy update:
our reader eirik went and made a coin ring out of a Norwegian 5 kroner (which is about 3 mm larger than an American quarter). check out the pics! goes to show that you can be a popular rap star/hacker.

Tv-b-gone Now B A Cellphone

TV B GONE CELL

Allright, we all should know about the handy device that came out awhile back called tv-b-gone and how it shuts off tv’s by holding down a button. problem is, it’s pretty easy to spot if you’re an awesome best buy security guard wearing that coveted yellow shirt, so you’re risking revealing yourself somewhat by using it. however, if you were to say, disguise it completely as a cellphone by totally redoing the whole thing, then you may be able to casually stroll by those TVs while “chatting on the cellie” and get out alive.

by alive we mean casually strolling out of best buy or an electronics store. very impressive idea here.

The Poor Man’s Segway

Skate Segway

Well, maybe it’s not entirely a Segway, but it’s the right idea. these ubc students went and drew up the plans for a skateboard based segway-like vehicle. they dubbed it “emanual” after the skateboard trick called the manual (come on, you at least played tony hawk for playstation right?). they awesome part is that it works. took a few years, but hey, good things take time. it uses electronic tilt sensors to keep you from falling over and has it’s own control system.
